Every year has its special film. This year it's...Storm Boy.

Based on the classic Australian children's novel, and starring a young David Gulpilil in an early-career role, Storm Boy was a major critical and commercial success. The feature won Best Film at the 1976 AACTA Awards, and was one of the earliest Australian features to break through to an international audience.

Storm Boy (Greg Rowe, Blue Fin) lives with his recluse father, Tom (Peter Cummins, Frog Dreaming) on the Coorong, a hundred kilometre stretch of beautiful windswept dunes where the Murray River meets the sea. Here his spirit roams with his pet pelican, Mr. Percival, and his Aboriginal friend, Fingerbone Bill (David Gulpilil, The Tracker). He knows no other world. Suddenly there are intruders, the local teacher who wants him to attend school, a resentful wild-life ranger, duck hunters...

Storm Boy, growing up, is forced to choose between a life of continued isolation and the challenges of the outside world.
