Elderly novelist WADE taps away at his typewriter in the middle of a large redwoods forest. In front of him, a battling duo of knights fight with their silver swords and shields. WADE stops typing momentarily – the knights pause their battle. He ponders for a moment on what to write next – then continues his story. The knights continue their fight. After typing away for a few more minutes he is distracted by something in the trees – a mirage of a girl smiling in a field of sunflowers. Who is she?
When WADE is propositioned by his publisher to write a great story to help save their diminishing book company – he takes it on himself to write his most personal story yet. He packs his things and books a holiday house down by the beach for a week by himself. Delving deep into his past of his first love – he re-creates moments, montages and emotions from this relationship that was everything to him in his young 20’s. Mysteries lost deep in time are resolved when he sees things from a different perspective. His first love inevitably morphs into his second love as lessons are learnt along the way. What happened to that girl he first fell in love with?
Featuring no-dialogue ‘Dreams of Paper and Ink’ is a meditation in silence, cinema, infatuation and music.
