“...dissects the ugliest truths of a seemingly pristine family.” — CineEuropa
Helena feels unfulfilled in her marriage to university lecturer husband Rihards as they move with their children into a remote house in the countryside, where Helena hopes to renovate the run-down property and convert it into a dance retreat. They soon discover that the house, belonging to her late entomologist father, appears to be plagued by an endless infestation of bugs.
The infestation at the center of The Brazen creeps its way past the tropes of the “family moves into a fixer-upper home – frights ensue” horror and into the cracked façade of a seemingly perfect family, using black humour and psychological horror to evoke Lars von Trier as much as it does Argento and Cronenberg, and to crawl under your skin.
